About Chu Man

Chu Man lives on the North San Diego Coast with a wife, two daughters, and a neurotic “sock terrier”.

Most of the information here is gathered from friends, co-workers, trial and error. Some posts are just ideas. Some stuff might come from other websites, hard knocks, Bible studies, technical pubs, or periodicals. Other posts are random travel notes to tell others about how to get to some cool places or remind ourselves how we made a trip last time. Most of the time efforts are made to reference sources but sometimes I’m too busy to bother.

Why did you name your blog like that?

  • I’m not too sure about the history of the name Chu. It’s of Chinese origin. There’s a Chinese state named Chu. Don’t know much else about it.
  • CHU is also an acronym for the “Carlsbad Hydrologic Unit” – the watershed area where we live.
  • The word ‘foo’ also has an honored tradition. See the “etymology of foo” ietf rfc 3092.
  • The “man” part of it just seemed to fit in along with the others.

The picture up on top of this site is taken from the Molokai to Maui ferry early one morning in 2006.

  1. Aloha Chu Man Foo! I am a member of the extended Bridges Ohana. My Great Grandmother Mary Ellen Hanau-Umi-a-Kanoena Bridges Pahau was an older sister of Ella Kamakea Bridges Kaai. My Grandmother Lydia Pahau Horner lived on Molokai – in fact in 1925 she and her husband Alfred W. Horner Jr. and their children moved to Molokai from Honolulu and ived with Aunty Ella’s family until their new home was built on their just acquired homestead in Ho’olehua. II graduated from Kamehmeha School for Boys in 1965. Genealogy is one on my main interests. I came across you website a couple of years ago doing genealogy research and I check back every now and then. Retired and living in AZ. Ahui Hou! Noa W. Horner

    • Aloha there. Sorry – been very busy with classes and such. I’m kind of out of the loop on a lot of the ohana thing. Dad’s much closer to knowing who is who, but felt compelled to post this picture of great grandma ella so folks could check it out. Wasn’t even sure it got posted publicly, wanted to keep it kind of private. Oh well…
